Every home we design begins with how people truly live the rhythm of their mornings, the way they gather, and what home feels like to them.

Architecture designed to support the life inside it.

J Taylor Designs partners with clients and builders who value design intention, collaboration, and craftsmanship.
We work best with clients who are ready to think deeply about how they live, and builders who see the design process as an essential part of building well.

Jamie Taylor

Founder + Principal Designer

I've always been drawn to the way spaces feel. Since I was twelve, I've been sketching floor plans on graph paper; studying how rooms connect and how a small layout shift can change the entire experience of a home

After earning my degree in Interior Design from Middle Tennessee State University, I began my career at a residential design firm focused on architectural work. When the economy shifted in 2008, I joined Huskey Truss & Building Supply and that chapter changed everything. Reviewing plans for structural integrity, working through material take-offs, designing truss systems. I learned how homes are actually built, from the inside out.

I design for beauty and livability, and I build that beauty around what I learned in the field. What looks stunning on paper has to work in the build, honor the investment, and hold up for decades. Most designers don't have that foundation. It's the difference my clients feel.

I founded J Taylor Designs in 2009 to bridge those worlds; design and structure, creativity and craft. Since then I've built lasting relationships with homeowners and builders who share a commitment to thoughtful design, collaboration, and quality.

Designing a home is deeply personal for me. I want every client to feel seen, their vision honored, and their process smooth from first sketch to final build. I'm always learning, adapting, and refining because the best homes evolve just like the people who live in them.

What working with me actually looks like:

I stay involved well beyond the drawings. That means reviewing lumber yard engineering, coordinating with your builder during the planning phase, and making sure every detail is resolved on paper before it becomes a decision someone has to make on site.

The goal is simple: by the time your builder breaks ground, the plan is so clear and complete that surprises are rare and the build runs smoothly.

“You, and your team, have been an absolute dream to work with, and we will be singing your praises and referring anyone we can!”
